Residents of Ostrander have been notified that they need to boil all water used for consumption until given the OK by City of Ostrander officials.

The notification was issued Jan. 1 after an incident in which the heater failed in the well house for the primary water supply, resulting in frozen piping.

The operator is planning to start up the emergency/backup well, but this well has not been used for at least a couple of years and was physically disconnected from the water system, according to Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase. Once the backup well is running, the operator will flush and test chlorine residual. Bacteria samples will be collected in the morning of Jan. 2
