Linus Raymond Wenthold, 83, of Sleepy Eye, Minn., died on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at his home.

He was born on April 7, 1934, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Henry J. and Margaret (Kleve) Wenthold.

He grew up in rural Ossian, Iowa, and attended school through the eighth grade.

He married Anna Riha at Ft. Atkinson, Iowa. The couple was later divorced.

He farmed and drove a truck for many years. He loved driving in demolition derbies, trail riding, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Mabel Sportsman’s Club, Sleepy Eye Saddle Club and a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

He is survived by his significant other, Connie Knutson of Sleepy Eye, Minn.; four children, DeWayne (Jeannette) Wenthold of Kalispell, Mont., Cathy Peterson of Mabel, Diane Wilder of Mabel and Sandra (Dan) Miller of Port Angeles, Wash.; five grandchildren, Whitney Wenthold of Seattle, Wash., Jim Peterson of Mabel, Bethany (Nick) Moen of Spring Grove, Nicole (Tyler) Jensen of Sleepy Eye, Minn., and Adam (Heather) Wilder of Mabel; seven great-grandchildren, Tysen and Ryland Moen, Kenley, Madelyn and Emmalynn Jensen and Graysen and Tyten Wilder; brothers, Greg, Francis (JoAnn), Ray (Marsha) and Ronnie (Marlene) and sisters, Evelyn, Norine (Bob) and Margaret Ann.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin (Leona); sisters, Rita (Francis) Wiltgen, Thecla (Oscar) Ott and Agatha (Leo) Burke and brothers-in-law, Gervase Hanken and Ralph Wiltgen. 

A funeral service for him was held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Sleepy Eye, Minn.

Interment will be at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
