  • The Rushford-Peterson school had two tie votes at its Monday, July 17, meeting.  Clerk Bonnie Prinsen was absent. Both votes focused on one issue; the hiring of a basketball coach to replace Tom Vix , who retired earlier this year.

    Dreams really can come true, if you’re willing to put the time in to make them happen. Southeast Minnesota native and Rushford-Peterson High School graduate Nikki Johnson is living proof of that.

  • The Rushford Economic Development Authority had a light schedule for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 12, at the Rushford City Hall. The board dealt with a couple of Micro-Grant requests and continued talking about their strategic plan to improve the economic vitality in Rushford.
  • The City of Rushford Village spent most of their July 11 meeting discussing dust control reimbursement for residents living on county roads.

    Results from theRushford Days Car Show was held last Saturday, July 15, at Pam’s Corner parking lot.
  • Bunke Field dedicated during ceremony Saturday
    Over 100 people celebrated the naming of the Rushford Municipal Airport  as “Robert W. Bunke Field” last Saturday. Ninety aircraft, including three vintage WWII military planes, flew into the scenic ridgetop airport, now named for the man whose vision made it possible.
  • The final curtain call for R-P theater

    As the cast of the recent Rushford Area Society for the Arts (RASA) musical Annie took their bows, Chris Hallum, the RASA veteran who portrayed Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, did something out of the ordinary.

    “No one leave quite yet,” he instructed the audience. “Let’s give one more big hand for this theater.” Hallum reminded the audience of the years of RASA performances, All-School plays, community education dance programs, and music concerts held in the facility through the years.

     Audience members joined in a standing ovation to honor the theater that has housed performances for nearly 40 years.

  • Mabel man helping to ‘knock out cancer’ with tractor

    Joel Amdahl of Mabel is giving cancer a one-two punch with a tractor. 

    A member of Team C.H.R.I.S. from Mabel, Amdahl, who donated a pink tractor last year for the Fillmore County Relay for Life held in Chatfield, has done it again for the annual event held in Rushford this year. The event, which has a theme of “Knock Out Cancer,” will run July 28 and 29.

  • Education on the move
    With just over a month until the estimated completion date, contractors for the new Rushford-Peterson School are hard at work. Last week, community volunteers and students began the huge task of moving materials from the old school site to the new building.

  • Mollie B and Squeezebox bring polka to Peterson
    The dictionary definition of “prodigy” is a person, especially a young one, endowed with exceptional qualities or abilities. Polka’s version of a child prodigy will perform in Peterson this Sunday as part of their Music in the Bandstand events.

  • Rushford Peterson Valley was visited by a different type of biker gang last week, when cyclists participating in the second annual Root River Bluff and Valley Bicycle Tour enjoyed stops in Rushford and Peterson.
