Ronald Wiltgen, 67, of Gaylord, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Ronald Dean Wiltgen was born on Jan. 18, 1947, in Rochester, Minn. He was the son of Walter and Betty (Daniels) Wiltgen. He was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his youth. He received his education in Harmony and was a graduate of the Harmony High School Class of 1965.

On Sept. 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sharon Baumler at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple resided in Preston and in 1983 they moved to Gaylord. He was the owner of the Preston Republican newspaper in Preston and the executive director of the ASCS Office in Gaylord.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Gaylord, the Knights of Columbus and the Sertoma Club.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading and watching football. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He brought an abundance of laughter and light-heartedness to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Gaylord; daughters, Sheila (Troy) of Gaylord, Rhonda Cannata of Mankato and Stacey Wiltgen of Arlington, Minn.; grandchildren, Tory and Ty Knacke of Gaylord, Erica Wessbecker of Denver, Colo., Evan and Hope Cannata of Mankato, Megan Wiltgen of Arlington and Ben Knops of Arlington; his mother, Betty Wiltgen of Harmony; siblings, Wayne (Mary) Wiltgen of Ottertail, Minn., Terry (Sharon) Wiltgen of Rochester, Susan (Tom) Ehlen of Farmington, Minn., and JoAnn (Stephe) McBroom of Sun Tan Valley, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wiltgen, and infant granddaughter, Ariel Grace.

A memorial service was held last Saturday, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Gaylord with interment at a later date.
