Shirley M. (Tschumper) Green, 93, died on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, in Eyota.

She was born in Winona on April 14, 1924.

She was raised in Minnesota City where she attended grades one through eight in a two-room school. She attended school in Winona for grades nine thru 12, graduating in 1942.

She moved to Rochester and lived with her cousin. There she met her future husband, Gordon. He enlisted in the service in 1942 and she eventually went back to Winona to attend Winona State Teachers College graduating in 1945.

She taught school in Emmons, Minn., before marrying Gordon in 1946 and moving to Minneapolis so he could finish college. At that time she taught in Columbia Heights.

After his graduation they moved to Madelia, Minn. They have also lived in Austin and Preston before retiring to Rochester with her final years being spent in Eyota. She did some tutoring and worked for her husband at their pharmacy in Preston. She was quite involved with the church and liked to play bridge. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Gordon; one daughter, Judy Leopold (Michael); one son, David; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one sister, Janice Drazkowski.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James.

A memorial service for her will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be on March 5, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery Minneapolis.
