Wallace "Wally" James Horihan, 81, of Greeley, Colo., died on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Grace Pointe Continuing Care in Greeley.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1936, to Emmett and Cora (Skauge) Horihan in Spring Grove, the fourth of seven children.

He graduated from Mabel High School in 1954 and entered the United States Navy the same year, serving until 1957.

On Feb. 7, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Betsinger at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel.

In 1960 he started his 32-year career with IBM in Rochester. In 1965 he transferred to IBM Boulder, Colo., and continued his career as a polymer engineer. He retired from IBM Charlotte, N.C., in 1992.

While living in Longmont, Colo., he was a coach for Hygiene Little League and a leader for Boy Scout Troop 65 from St. John's Catholic Church. He missed very few, if any, sports that his boys were involved in. He loved all sports.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greeley.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darlene Horihan; sons, Devin (Joanne), Daniel and William (Lorri), all of Johnstown, Colo., and Joel (partner Dianne) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Ryan Bennet of Denver, Hope (Jordan) Lukacena of Asheville, N.C., Morgan, Molly, Madison, Trevor and Alyssa, all of Johnstown; brother, Paul (Arlene) of Lanesboro; sisters, Marcella (Leland) Larson and Charlotte Amdahl, both of Arizona; sister-in-law, Ardis Horihan of Rochester and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Vern and Cyril and sister, Patricia Topness.

A celebration of life service for him was held on Monday, Feb. 12, at Adamson Life Celebration Home. Interment will take place in Minnesota at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to "Assisi Heights" in care of Mengis Funeral Home, 301 Maple St. N., Mabel, MN 55954.
