The Fillmore Central Falcons football team got the #7 seed in the 1A Section playoffs and had to travel to the #2 seeded Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms for a first round match-up.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, Blooming Prairie put together an awesome running game, to go along with their already notorious passing game (340 yards/game) and downed the Falcons, 60-13.

Nothing really went right for Fillmore Central in the first half.  The Falcons had eight possessions in the first half, resulting in an interception, fumble, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, and interception, and trailed at halftime, 34-0.

In the second half, FC showed some promise when it scored on its first drive, going 30 yards, after a great 60-yard kickoff return by Trace Tollefson.  The scoring drive included a couple passes from Bryce Whitehill to Jordan Miller, including a 12-yard touchdown pass at the 9:27 mark.  Zach Sorenson kicked the extra-point and the Falcons were on the board, behind, but “on the scoreboard”, 34-7.

However, the Fillmore Central fortunes were short-lived as BP went on another scoring binge and built up the lead to 54-7, before the Falcons could score again.

Fillmore Central’s second score was also a pass from Whitehill to Miller, this one for 22 yards.   The extra-point try was no good and the Falcons trailed 54-13.

Blooming Prairie put the final touches on the game with another 60-yard run by their reserve quarterback.  Final score, BP 60, FC 13.

Leading rusher for Fillmore Central was Dylan Bathke, 38 yards on 18 carries.  Sophomore Michael Kotek picked up 31 yards on just four carries, a positive note for the future.  Also carrying the ball were Bryce Whitehill (7/3 yds), freshman Logan Corson (2/-7), sophomore Riley Means (1/4), freshman Matt Lutes (3/5), Gatlin Woellert (1/0), and freshman Brady Ristau (2/4).  The Falcons fumbled five times and lost three of them.

In the passing department, Bryce Whitehill was 8/19 for 58 yards, including two touchdowns and three interceptions.  Logan Corson threw one pass that was incomplete.  Jordan Miller had four receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns.  Riley Means got two passes (2 yards), with Dylan Bathke (-1) and Nate Birch (4 yds.) each catching one pass.

Defensively, Nate Haugerud had an interception and Matt Lutes had a fumble recovery.  Lutes and Justin Ristau also had recoveries of Fillmore Central fumbles.  In the tackle department, Brady Ristau had five solo tackles and two assists.  Coming up with three solo tackles each were Trace Tollefson, Riley Means, Gatlin Woellert, and Nick Mensink.  Two solo tackles were recorded by Matt Lutes, Justin Ristau and Luke Ristau.

With the loss, Fillmore Central finishes the 2014 season with two wins and seven losses.
