Six returning senior letter winners will lead the Cougars into the 2014 basketball season.

Donnie Lind (6’ 1”) will play post. He averaged 8.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per outing last year. Keyser Wenthold (5’ 10”) returns at guard. He averaged five points per game (ppg), 3.5 assists per game. Guard Wesley Richert (5’ 10”) scored 2.5 ppg as a junior. Dustin Kerns (6’ 0”) is listed at wing, while Jon Selness (6’ 0”) will play post.

The junior class includes four returning letter winners – all guards. They are: Mitch Kuhn (6’ 0”), Tannor Fairchild (6’ 0”), Bryce Michels (5’ 9”) and Wyatt Fredrickson (5’ 10”).

The sophomore class returns two letter winners who saw plenty of varsity action last year. Wayne Ross (5’ 9”) played guard, averaging 2.8 ppg. Weston Whalen (5’ 10”) is listed at post.

Head coach Doug Wyffels returns for a tenth year at the helm. He said bright spots for 2014 include “retuning two point guards and a post, so we hope they will be good leaders for players who are filling in the other spots.”

The biggest challenge for the Cougars is the fact that the team graduated its top three scorers last year.

Wyffels said Rushford-Peterson should be a favorite in the section, while Spring Grove and Lyle/Pacelli are considered to hold the inside track in the SEC.

“We hope to be competitive in the conference race,” he added.

Assistant coaches include Karl Urbaniak (eighth year) and Doug Ward (fourth year).

The Cougars amassed a record of 15-12 (12-6 SEC) in 2013. They'll tip off the new season on Thursday, Nov. 20, hosting LeRoy-Ostrander. M-C heads to Houston on Nov. 25.
