The Houston County Fair Board recognized several individuals for their many years of service to the county fair during the Senior Citizen Day program Aug. 14 at the fairgrounds. Those awarded a plaque include:

Ed Hammell who served on the fair board and provides tents for the annual event. Also, he instigated the Super Hero contest.

P.J. Johnson was a fair board member and secretary who went above and beyond the call of duty during her years of service.

Mary Ehler was manager of the beer tent for many years. She is currently battling with cancer of her back and is in the hospital following surgery on Aug. 13.

"She is happy and is starting to get movement back," Meisch reported while accepting the award for Ehler.
