Janet Kathryn (Klueber) Schmit died due to complications from a 30-year battle with multiple sclerosis (MS) on Dec. 21, 2017, at Sanford Hospice Centennial Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Janet was born on March 13, 1952, to Roland and Alma (Kostboth) Klueber of Canistota, S.D. She grew up on a farm north of Canistota, attending Canistota schools through her sophomore year.

She graduated from Madison High School in 1970, where she was a member of the All-State Chorus. She then went on to graduate from Stewarts School of Hairstyling.

After graduation, she worked at the Charm Shop in Madison, S.D. She married Edward Schmit on Oct. 4, 1975, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Madison.

She later worked at Donna’s Beauty Shop in Madison. She worked for ECCO, Inc. (now Valiant Living) in Madison for 19 years, retiring in May 2014.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Edward Schmit of Madison; sons, Clark (Tina Schuldt), Brett and Ross, all of Madison; sisters, Shirley (Ralph) VanWyhe of Salem and Sharon (Dale) Buxengaard of Spring Grove; brother, Jack (LaVonne) Klueber of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Sharon Klueber of Sioux Falls and Garnet Klueber of Canistota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Derald, Duane, Herman and John (in infancy).
