On Friday afternoon, crews worked to clean the road with the street sweeper in preparation for the final surface lift of bituminous pavement. Spring Grove Public Utilities director Paul Morken began preparations for holiday decorations on some of the light poles. "I've been working for the city for 37 years and this is only the third set of decorations that we've had," he explained.
Everyone is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open Main Street once again on Thursday, November 21st at 1:30 p.m.!
Other work that was completed this past week in Spring Grove included, finishing up the sidewalk and pedestrian ramps east of Division Avenue, spreading topsoil from Division Avenue to the east, and installing light poles from Division Avenue to the east. Work plans for this week include installing new street signs, finishing the installation of light poles east of Division Avenue, spreading topsoil and placing sod, and the long-awaited paving of the final surface lift of bituminous pavement.
Project engineer Jeffrey Bunch also reminded people that Highway 44 in downtown Spring Grove is still closed to traffic. People have been sneaking through barricades and driving through downtown. Remember to continue to use the local detour to get around downtown until Main Street is officially open.
This past week, the Highway 44 project west of Spring Grove finished paving the final surface lift of bituminous pavement from Spring Grove to Highway 52. This week they will be placing aggregate shoulders between the Underpass Quarry and Highway 52, working from the Quarry to the east. They will also be installing edge line rumble strips from the west end of Spring Grove to Highway 52 and placing temporary paint striping along entire project.
