Alex Folz
Alex Folz
Spring Grove junior Alex Folz has been named to the 2017 Associated Press All-State Football Team, his second all-state honor this season. Previously recognized - along with four other Lion teammates - on the 9-Man All-State Team, this AP honor covers all seven classes in Minnesota.

The 78-player honor squad included only three 9-man players - Folz along with Second Team running back Zach Myhre of Grand Meadow and Third Team quarterback Carter Kopet of Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran.

By position, Folz was selected as a Third Team all-purpose player, recognizing his defense as well as triple threat contributions on offense while passing, rushing and kicking.

Caledonia's Owen King was the Minnesota AP Player of the Year. Three Warrior teammates were also honored, including Second Team selections - wide receiver/tight end Jordan Burg and linebacker Mason Staggemeyer. Wide received/ tight end Andrew Goergen was a Third Team honoree.

This honor, as voted by a statewide panel of prep writers and broadcasters, was announced on Dec. 20.

This past season, Folz broke his own single season records with 2,298 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns along with the fourth best single season rushing total of 1,581 yards.

With another season of eligibility remaining, he is already the all-time Spring Grove leader in total offense (8,401 rushing and passing yards), passing yardage (4,759) and passing touchdowns (65).

Folz is only 27 yards short of the career rushing record, currently held by his brother Andy Folz (3,669 yards, 2003 - 2006).
