Mabel Liquor clinched the regular season championship with a decisive 12-4 win against defending champion and second place Larson Well Drilling. That July 28 nightcap highlighted week nine of a 10-week schedule of the Men’s Slowpitch Softball League at Canton.

Bunke 13, Soland 12

The fifth lead change came as Bunke Construction edged Soland Carpentry in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Four Bunke runs in the sixth had sent the teams into the final frame tied at 12-all. It was a far tighter fit than Bunke’s two previous wins over Soland (10-5 and 13-3).

Soland 9, SG Legion 7

Soland came right back to defeat Spring Grove Legion in another close contest. Down 4-0, Legion suddenly tied the score with a grand slam home run by Sam Otterness in the third inning.

Soland responded quickly with three runs and held on for the two-run decision. The teams had split their previous two league encounters.
