Chatfield fell to Cotter 57-46 in girls basketball Friday, Dec. 22, after the Christmas edition of the Chatfield News went to press.

The girls had two more games last weekend — Friday against Pine Island and Saturday against Lanesboro in a tournament at Winona State University — that were played after the New Year’s edition of the Chatfield News went to press. The News was printed early two weeks in a row due to the Monday holidays.

In the Cotter game, the Gophers fell behind 32-19 at halftime. Although they narrowed the gap in the second half, it wasn’t enough.

Macy Pederson led the team in scoring with 20 points as she was three for three in three-point shooting. Alanna Goetzinger had eight points. Others scoring for Chatfield were Britney Fretland with six, half of those coming on a three-point shot, Belle Berg with four, Grace Friederichs with three, Silja Erickson with two and Sarah Baum with one point.

The Gophers converted 10 of 14 free throws while Cotter put in 14 of 21. Cotter has a record of 9-3 while the loss dropped Chatfield to 2-7 overall.

The girls kick off 2018 with a game at Fillmore Central on Thursday, Jan. 4, and a home game Tuesday, Jan. 9, against Rushford-Peterson, which doesn’t have a conference win yet.
