The Chatfield girls’ basketball team lost to Rochester Lourdes 70-27 last week in the “round of 16” playoffs, ending the Gophers’ 2017-18 season at 8-18.  Lourdes came into the game with an 18-8 record as the No. 2 seed.  Chatfield was the No. 15 seed at 8-17.

In the first minute of the game, Chatfield was tied with the Eagles at 2-2, but from that point on it was all Lourdes, as the second seed cruised to a 40-15 lead at intermission.

Macy Pederson came out on fire in the second half, hitting two three-pointers to cut the lead to 19.  Pederson finished the game with eight points, all coming in the second half.  Belle Berg and Alanna Goetzinger each had six points for the Lady Gophers.  All of Berg’s points came in the first half.  Goetzinger was four for four at the free throw line.  Britney Fretland finished with five points, all coming in the first half.  Shelby Isensee was two for two at the free throw line and finished the game with those two points.

The Lady Gophers could only put 12 points on the board in the second half. Chatfield had 27 turnovers in the game.  Lourdes had nine turnovers in the game.

Goetzinger (six) and Berg (five) were the rebounding leaders for Chatfield.  Isensee had three boards, two each for Grace Friederichs, Pederson, Fretland and Megan Hopp and one each for Kaci Goldsmith and Abby Nosbisch.  The team only had three steals in the game, one each for Fretland, Isensee and Goetzinger.  Berg and Fretland each had two assists and dishing out one each were Friederichs, Pederson, Isensee and Goetzinger.

As a team, Chatfield shot 24.3 percent (9/37) from the field, 42.9 percent (3/7) from three-point range, and a perfect six for six at the charity line.  Individually, Pederson was three for seven (42.9 percent) from the field and two for four (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc, and Fretland was two for five (40.0 percent) from the field and one for three (33.3 percent) from downtown.

Four seniors, Grace Friederichs, Macy Pederson, Britney Fretland and Megan Hopp, played their last high school basketball game for the Lady Gophers.  It was fun watching these gals play all these years.

Watch for a complete rundown of all their stats in next week’s issue.
