Macy Pederson had her best scoring night of the season, 26 points, as she led the Lady Gophers to a 51-42 win over St. Charles Friday in the final regular season game of the season. 

“We finally played two good halves,” said head coach Brian Baum. “Macy Pederson was tremendous all night and the team really played with control and patience and pretty much led the whole way.  Very proud of these kids!  Great last home game for our seniors on Parents and Seniors Night.”

Pederson hit seven of 14 shots from the field, including three of eight from three-point range, and nine of 10 at the free throw line.  Pederson also contributed four rebounds, two steals and two assists. 

Alanna Goetzinger was also in double-figure scoring with 12, nailing six of nine shots from the field.  She added a team-high seven rebounds and came up with two steals. 

Belle Berg had seven points in the game, including a three-pointer, six rebounds, a team-high three assists and a steal.  Also scoring were Britney Fretland (four points, 2/3 field goals) and Grace Friederichs (two, 1/2 fg). Friederichs also added two rebounds, two steals and an assist and Fretland added two rebounds, two assists and a steal.  Kaci Goldsmith and Sarah Baum each had two rebounds and an assist. 

Chatfield shot 50.0 percent (19/38) from the field, 33.3 percent (4/12) from three-point range and 60.0 percent (9/15) at the free throw line. 

“A great win for us”, added Baum. 

Last Tuesday, the gals lost to Kingsland 58-50.  Pederson (15) and Berg (13) led the team in scoring.  Pederson hit four of 10 from the field, three of seven from downtown and four of six at the line.  Berg had three field goals and was seven for 12 at the free throw line. 

Also getting into the scorebook were Shelby Isensee (six points, 3/7 field goals), Megan Hopp (five, 2/5 fg, 1/2 threes), Goetzinger (five, 3/4 free throws), Baum (two, 1/1 fg), Fretland (two, 2/2 ft), Goldsmith (one) and Abby Nosbisch (one). 

Leaders in rebounds were Goetzinger (six), Berg (five), Isensee (four) and Pederson (three). Friederichs, Fretland, Hopp and Baum had two boards each.  Berg and Pederson each had three assists to lead the team in that category. 

Team shooting: 14/46 (30.4 percent) field goals, 4/15 (26.7 percent) three-pointers, and 18/28 (64.3 percent) at the charity stripe. 

The team finished the regular season with an 8-17 record, 7-11 in Three Rivers Conference play.  The team finished 2-4 against the teams in the East Division and were 1-6 against non-conference opponents.

Section tourney

The team got the No. 15 seed and will travel to Rochester Lourdes (No. 2) on Thursday, Feb. 22.  If the Gophers beat Lourdes on Thursday they will play again on Monday, Feb. 26, at the Mayo Civic Arena.  Stewartville got the No. 1 seed.  The complete bracket for 1AA is available on the Minnesota State High School League ( website.
