Dale Alfred Benike, 62, of Wykoff, died on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, in rural Fillmore.

He was born on March 24, 1955, in Rochester to Al and Bonnie Benike.

He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1973. 

On Oct. 19, 1985, he was united in marriage to Sherry Schlieben in Austin, Texas. The couple later divorced. 

He worked as a mason and ran his own business and worked for the union. Throughout his career, he traveled to Texas and eventually returned to the Wykoff area.

He liked to travel along with his travel companion, "Spud." He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses and spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on many Friendship Wagon Train trips and teaching them how to ride. He also enjoyed playing the drums and was an active member of the church band.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Brian) Miner of rural Spring Valley; son, Jaimie (Bethany) McCain of Rochester; mother, LaVonne (Bonnie) Benike of Chatfield; siblings, Terry (Jeanne) Benike of Minnieska, Minn., Connie (Rick) Sherman of Rochester, Linda (Jim) Owen of Rochester, Tim (Kari Apenhorst) Benike of Fillmore, Tom (Mary) Benike of Rochester, Jerry (Sharon) Benike of Chatfield and Shelley (Scott) Johnson of Forest Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, Jenifer Lichty, Stephanie, Caitlin, Emily and Cameron Miner and Carter and Aubrey McCain and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christine Miner and father, Alfred (Al) Benike.

The funeral for him was held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Fillmore Free Methodist Church in Fillmore with the Rev. Dave Martin officiating. 

Burial followed at Orion Cemetery in rural Chatfield.
