Erma Shaw, 98, died on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Cottagewood in Rochester, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 18, 1919, to Laura and Carl Ericson on the family farm near Chatfield.

She married Alvin (Jeff) Shaw on July 19, 1941.

Shortly after they were married, her husband left to fight in World War II. She continued living with her parents until he returned after the war.

They purchased a farm just outside of Fillmore where they stayed until retiring in 1977, when they moved to Wykoff. She enjoyed living in town. She was active in the community. She was a member of the card and birthday clubs, women’s auxiliary and secretary of the senior citizens group.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was never too busy to spend quality time talking to loved ones over a cup of coffee. Those people she couldn’t keep in touch with on a daily basis enjoyed the countless letters she wrote. She was an avid card player and would never walk away from a good or a bad game of 500. She was a joy to visit, always so excited to see friends and family.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Linda) Shaw of Chatfield, Gail (Chuck) Rollie of Spring Valley and Shiela (Mark) Carroll of Rochester; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff; two sons; a grandson; two sisters and a brother.

A funeral service for her was held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Free Methodist Church, (Fillmore) Wykoff, MN 55990.
