Lewis R. Wibben, 77, of Stewartville, died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, of natural causes at his home.
Lewis Roger Wibben was born on April 4, 1940, in Titonka, Iowa, to John "Jack" and Augusta (Tegtmeyer) Wibben. He moved with his family as a boy to Taopi, Minn., and then Stewartville, where he attended Stewartville High School, graduating in 1958.
He enlisted into the U.S. Marines, serving 4 years. After his discharge in 1965, he returned to Stewartville, where he has continued to make his home. He was employed for more than 30 years as a field mechanic at Libby, McNeil and Libby, and then Seneca Foods in Rochester. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage shop, mowing and doing yard work, helping his neighbors in the yard and collected toy tractors. He enjoyed visiting with friends, time spent with his family and was a practical joker who had an active sense of humor, especially with his nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Lewie.
Lewis is survived by two sisters and two brothers - Janice (Larry) Billman of Chatfield, Ronald (Marion) Wibben of Stewartville, Curtis (Linda) Wibben of rural Stewartville and Sandra (Dallas) Gardner of Chatfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters - Angie Broughman, Meredith Simon; and an infant sister and infant brother.
In keeping with Lewis' wishes, there will be no services or visitation. A private family burial and committal service with military graveside honors took place on Friday, Jan. 26, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
