Anne Mrotz, 77, sister of Wykoff man

Anne Ellen (Glady) Mrotz, 77, of Mankato, died Monday Aug. 12, 2019, from complications of Leiomyosaroma cancer.

Anne Ellen Mrotz was born April 28, 1942, to Paul and Elda Stella (Johnston) Glady at Wykoff.

She attended The College of St. Teresa in Winona from 1960 to 1962 and the University of Minnesota from 1962 to 1965, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in home economics education. She completed her master’s degree in home economics and higher education at Mankato State University in 1976.

She was united in marriage with Dave Mrotz on April 15, 1972, in Wykoff. She was a lifelong educator, teaching home economics classes to middle, high school and college students in various schools throughout Minnesota in her earlier years. She was hired in 1989 at Mankato Vocational Technical College, where she taught in the custom training department for 17 years, until her retirement in December 2007.

She and her husband spent winters in Florida, at their condominium in Sebring, Fla., playing golf, going for walks, exploring different parts of Florida, and developing many friendships with people in their community. They had several wonderful extended trips to South America, Europe, and Asia. They also enjoyed taking road trips throughout the United States, driving to Florida and Portland, Ore., every year.

She and her family enjoyed travel, going to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and taking road trips throughout the U.S.A.

She viewed her cancer journey as  “going on an adventure” often stating she still had “things to teach and people to torment” as a mantra to keep going. In addition to the encouragement from her husband and family to keep fighting, she received great support from friends in her weekly knitting group. Her grandchildren have always been such a blessing and joy in her life; she loved watching them learn and grow and took great pride in them.

She is survived by her husband, David of Mankato; three children, Michael (Carin) Mrotz of Minneapolis, Sarah Mrotz (Ross Jonak) of Portland, Ore., Thomas Mrotz of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Henry, Miriam and Etta; a brother, John (JoAnn) Glady of Wykoff; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, Aug. 16, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.

Memorials may be given to Leiomyosarcoma Research at Mayo Clinic or South Central College Scholarship Fund.

The headline is inaccurate. Anne graduated with me from Wykoff High School in 1960 and she is dearly missed.
