Junior Jack Beardmore will represent Caledonia/Spring Grove in this week's 2018 Class A State Track Meet after running a state standard time in the section 100-meter dash at the May 29 and 31 Section 1A Championships at Elgin.

This is his second trip to state after earning a third place medal with the 4x100-meter relay team at state last year.

The top two in each individual event at section advance to state. Beardmore was third, but he also advances as his time of 11.30 seconds was better than the state standard qualifying time of 11.31.

Competing in three events at section, Beardmore also brought home a fourth place medal in the 200-meter dash and a third place medal from the 4x100-meter relay.

That relay was clocked at 44.61 seconds in the finals, the foursome's best time on the year. Joining Beardmore were senior Cullen Patterson, junior Nick McCabe and senior Sam Barthel in the finals. Freshman Dalen Lemke had replaced Barthel in the prelims.

Patterson was one-hundredth of a second short of advancing past the 100-meter prelims with a time of 11.95 seconds.

Senior Taylor Holty closed out his career with a second straight fifth place section medal in the discus throw (131 feet, 6 inches).

Holty was by far the smallest and lightest thrower. "But he has great technique," commented head coach Carl Fruechte.

For the girls, senior Maria Schieber ran seventh in the 400-meter dash while senior Amber Conniff was seventh at 100 meters but was eliminated in the 200-meter prelims.

Amber Conniff, junior Kaitlin Conniff and freshmen Madison Winjum and Eliza Welscher won fourth place medals in the 4x100-meter relay with their best time of the year (51.18 seconds.)

Welscher did not advance out of the 100M prelims.

The C/SG boys placed 13th among the 27 teams that scored team points while the Warrior girls placed 23rd among 28 scoring teams.

Section 1A championship teams were the Stewartville boys and the Byron girls.

The Class A State Track & Field Championships are June 8 and 9 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
