Dorothy Torgerson, 96, of Harmony

Dorothy Torgerson, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, died at the age of 96 at Traditions in Harmony on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019.

Dorothy Elizabeth Matson was born on Nov. 12, 1922, to Martin and Gena (Larsud) Matson. She was joined in marriage to Lester Torgerson on May 24, 1942, at the Lutheran parsonage in Harmony.

After World War II they made their home in Harmony and together raised a family, and a successful business, Torgerson’s Floor Covering. The two enjoyed traveling to many destinations and spent many days at their cabin with family and friends. She was known for her great cooking and would share her famous sweet rolls with everyone near her. She was a member of Greenfield Lutheran Church, Miriam Circle and president of Greenfield Lutheran Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by three daughters and three sons, Diane (Lee) Bigalk, Larry (Marge), Dennis (Janell), Brad (Barb), Michelle (Orson) Guttormson, and Karen James (fiancee Al Scheiller); 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; eight brothers, Garfield, Arnold, Bernard, Victor, Donald, Walter, Martin and Leland Matson; and a grandson, LuVerne Torgerson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.  Burial was at Greenfield Cemetery.
