Harriet Chandler, 91, of Spring Grove

Harriet Lorraine Chandler, age 91 of Spring Grove, and formerly of Black Hammer, passed away Mon. July 8, 2019 at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare Center in Spring Grove.

Harriet was born Nov. 2, 1927 to Herman and Laura (Linde) Bergsrud. She attended rural school in Black Hammer, and later graduated from Spring Grove High School; while in high school she worked at the Spring Grove hospital.

On June 1, 1947 she married George Chandler at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer.

Before marrying George, Harriet had attended Luther College in Decorah, IA, although she didn’t finish there, she later went back to obtain a degree in Library Sciences from Northern Illinois University in McHenry, Ill.

The couple lived different places in Wisconsin and Illinois where George taught school and Harriet worked in hospitals and later after obtaining her degree as a librarian; in 1980 they retired and built their dream home in Black Hammer.

Survivors include her siblings Lois (Allan) Morken of Black Hammer, Mn and Fred (Marty) Bergsrud of Arden Hills, Mn. and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George and her sister-in-law Joanne Bergsrud.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pastor Leonard Liptack officiated.

Friends called on Sat. at the church from 10-11 a.m. 

Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
