The Rushford Days Tractor Pull was held on Saturday, July 21. There were 124 hooks total. Below are the top three from each class.

Car owners show off special vehicles at 2018 Rushford Days Car Show

On Saturday, July 21, 59 vehicles registered to participate in the Rushford Days Car Show. These vehicles ranged from a 1920’s T-Rod to classic cars, convertibles, rat rods, pickup trucks, and even a customized semi. 

Two famous dragstrip cars from the late 60’s were present that had been raced by Sox & Martin and by Bob Lambeck. Lambeck’s car was 1968 Dodge Hemi Dart. Sox & Martin’s car was a 60’s Plymouth Cuda. 

Several other classic cars were also spotted around Rushford as owners brought them out for the day but were not part of the show itself.

2018 Rushford Days: Willy Bunke’s Tractors on Parade

One of the highlights of the 2018 Rushford Days parade was a lineup of Willy Bunke’s restored tractors and implements. Bunke has been entertaining parade goers for the past four years as he and his family drive tractors and implements they have lovingly restored over the years. 

Currently Bunke’s collection stands at 15 tractors, and he entered a dozen in this year’s parade.

Rushford Council discusses library funding, city planning

Library funding was among the top items addressed by the Rushford city council at its July 23 meeting. Though scheduled to appear, Fillmore County Commissioner Randy Dahl was unable to attend and discuss the statistics of circulation and funding for SELCO/City libraries vs. county appropriations for services provided to non-city residents. Council members were, however, given attachments to the agenda to review. 

Former Chilean exchange student returns to Rushford for Class of 1998 reunion

Two decades may have passed, but wonderful memories hold strong for Marilyn Canessa from Santiago, Chile and Teresa Himlie of Rushford. Canessa has returned for her 20-year class reunion and the 60th birthday of Himlie, her host parent as she attended Rushford-Peterson High School. Canessa and Himlie are combining two very special occasions into one heartfelt reunion.

Rushford area well-represented at the 2018 World Horseshoe Tournament

The World Horseshoe Tournament took place in Florence, S.C., July 9-21. Hundreds of competitors come from around the world to compete in the event. 

Darren Chambers of Rushford is a veteran competitor at the tournament. Though Chambers normally competes alone, this year he had plenty of company.

Dawson Dahl is well-known as a standout student-athlete, and recent Rushford-Peterson grad. What few people recognize is Dahl’s contribution to the Rushford Historical Society’s collection of artifacts. 

Rushford hosts National Night Out event Aug. 7

Rushford’s National Night Out Celebration is set for August 7 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Tenborg Center in Rushford.  

The public is invited to come out and enjoy some brats, chips, and potato salad for a small cost. Food will be served inside, and (weather depending) activities will be outside the Tenborg Center on the street. Squad cars will have the street blocked off, and it’s a chance for local residents to come out and meet the people that take care and protect our community.  

LARP wrestling team participates in Luther’s Team Wrestling Camp

The Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson High School wrestling team participated in the 2018 Luther College Team Wrestling Camp in Decorah, Iowa.

The Luther wrestling camps, directed by Luther Head Wrestling Coach Dave Mitchell, have grown into some of the most recognized athletic camps in the Midwest. More than 1,000 wrestlers from 10+ states will attend the 2018 Luther College Wrestling Camps throughout July, making the series of camps some of the biggest camps in the country.
