‘Who dunnit?’ ABC and Woodland Industries hosts murder mystery dinner Oct. 13

I suppose you’re all wondering why I’ve gathered you here to read this article in the newspaper.

It seems there’s a murder mystery at Four Seasons Community Center in Caledonia on Oct. 13 and should you choose to attend, you’ll find yourself engaged in a murder mystery dinner.

In the past, it generally helps if you have a suspect. Naturally, there’s a suspect here, but who is it?

Join Houston County Ability Building Center (ABC) and Woodland Industries for a night of fun and mystery as they fundraise for people with disabilities.

Woodland Industries program coordinator Samantha Sherry said people are welcome to dress up in 1920s costumes such as mafia members and flappers to get in the Halloween spirit. People from ABC will also be participating in the production.

“The plan is to host Mafia Murders,” she said. “People will be able to talk to the cast members. They’ll receive biographic information about the characters during social hour.”

During dinner, the audience watches the mystery unfold. The show may also require some participation from the audience. At the end, people can try to solve the murder. Prizes will be handed out.

Included in the festivities is a silent and live auction and raffle drawing.

“It’s kind of more of a family atmosphere,” Sherry added. “Anyone can come and participate. It’s for all abilities.”

ABC and Woodland previously held the “Hitting the Sand for Woodland” event for nine years, which was a car, boat and motorcycle cruise.

However, since not everyone has a boat or time to drive around all day, the murder mystery dinner seemed like a good idea.

“It’s something new we don’t get very often,” Sherry said.

Social hour starts at 5 p.m., followed by dinner, auctions and the raffle.

The menu for the night is tossed salad, dinner roll, sirloin tips, turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, assorted cheesecake and milk. A cash bar will be available on site.

Tickets are $50 and should be purchased in advance, though some tickets will be available at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Twice is Nice in Caledonia or call 507-725-2092.
