Alice Deters, 95, of Spring Grove

Alice Deters, absolute heroine of five children, nineteen grandchildren and countless great grandchildren moved on to Heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019 from her own farm home of more than 70 years at the age of 95 years, 5 months, and 7 days.

Mom was able to be active in the farm and sharp in her mind to the very end. As recently as this past summer she mowed her own yard.

Mom selflessly gave of herself. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. Homemade cookies, peanut butter toast, and the best food imaginable were available to all.

An excellent seamstress, she made not only her own wedding dress, but her daughter’s wedding dresses also. Mom proudly modeled her wedding dress on her 50th anniversary without any alterations.

Because of so many grandsons, it probably cannot be counted the number of knee patches and zippers she replaced.

In addition to all this, she kept the farm books, supplied meals to the whole crew in the field, ran errands for parts and farm supplies, drove tractor and truck when needed, and completed the “Land It” training program in her and Dad’s Cessna aircraft. Mom did it all!

Mom is survived by her five children: Dennis Deters, Allen Deters, Katherine Herrera, Elisabeth Fritsch and John Deters; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Mom is now united with those who have departed before her. These include her husband of over 51 years, Lloyd Deters, daughter-in-law Carmaleta Deters, grandchildren Corinne Herrera, Heather Deters, Douglass Deters and Jake Deters.

Mom was a valuable and greatly missed source of knowledge, common sense, and advice. Patience and unconditional love were taught by example.
