Allan Waldemar, 92, brother of Spring Valley woman


Allan Waldemar

Allan William "Bud" Waldemar, 92, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at Bridges Senior Living.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1926, in Geneva, Minn., the son of Arthur and Isabelle (King) Waldemar. 

He attended school in Albert Lea.

He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II on Dec. 7, 1944. He was wounded in late 1945 and served until his honorable discharge in July 10, 1946. 

He married Betty Mae Backus on March 20, 1949, in Spring Valley. She died July 14, 2003. 

He worked for Rath Packing Company for 36 years until retiring in 1982. 

He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and V.F.W. Post 12038. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing cards. He was good at fixing things and was often tinkering with something or another. 

He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Waldemar of Florida; a sister, Delores Oeltjen of Spring Valley and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; two brothers, Robert and Dean Waldemar; a sister, Beatrice Lankey and longtime companion, Loretta. 

A graveside service was held on Monday, Nov. 26, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
