Allen Simonson, 90, father of Spring Valley man


Allen Simonson

Allen Merle Simonson, 90, of Hayfield and formerly of rural Sargeant, died on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1928, the son of Lionel and Ruth (Scharberg) Simonson in Sargeant Township in Mower County.

He graduated from Hayfield High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.

He was united in marriage to June Morehead on June 23, 1951, in Grayslake, Ill.

After returning from his duty in the Navy, he farmed in the Sargeant area and worked at IBM for 22 years. He enjoyed fishing, flying and camping and he and his wife spent 35 years going south to Meza, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, June Simonson of Hayfield; children, Michael (Patty) Simonson of Spring Valley, Cathy (Henry) Hoyt of Prescott, Ariz., Linda Simonson of Rochester, Diane (Paul) Stanton of Hayfield and Nancy (Richard) Beechum of Adel, Iowa; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ramon (Gloria) Simonson of Rochester; three sisters, Adeline Sager of Denton, Texas and Denise (Ernest) Bourgeois and Shirlee (Richard) Labuda, both of Grand Junction, Colo.

He was preceded in death by and one daughter, Judith Ann Simonson.

The funeral service for him was held on Friday, Dec. 28, at Evanger Lutheran Church in Sargeant. Interment followed in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post #330.
