Baseball team done for the season

The Chatfield baseball team lost its first round game to Lewiston-Altura 6-5 and is now out of the tournament and done for the 2019 season. Chatfield finished the season with a 9-10 record.

The Gophers got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the first inning, as they sent seven players to the plate. The guys scored both of their runs without a hit. They had two walks, a hit batter, an error and two ground-outs. Chatfield got two more runs in the second inning on an error (Tedon Zimmerman) and a home run by Seth Allen.

The Gophers got their fifth and final run in the sixth inning on two hits by Austin Storm and Sam Stevens and a sacrifice bunt from Zimmerman.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the win.

Max Aug pitched the first 5-1/3 innings. He allowed four hits and three earned runs, while walking eight and striking out six. Austin Storm pitched the final two outs. He allowed three hits, three earned runs, with no walks and no strikeouts.

L-A 2-0-0-1-0-0-3 = 6-7-4, LOB 8

Getting wins on the east side were Caledonia (No. 1), L-A (No. 4), La Crescent-Hokah (No. 2) and PEM (No. 3). The second round of play, which starts the double-elimination part, was scheduled for this past Saturday.
