Baseball team downs Kingsland 9-6

The Chatfield baseball team only had one game last week, a 9-6 non-conference win over Kingsland, as snow postponed two other games.

The game with St. Charles, postponed from Thursday, will be played on Monday, April 29. The originally scheduled Southland contest will now be part of a double-header on May 14 at Chatfield.

This week the team only has one game scheduled, at home against Wabasha-Kellogg on Tuesday.

In the win over Kingsland, Max Aug picked up the win in relief of Henry Gathje. Gathje pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits and four earned runs, while walking three and striking out three. Aug finished the final three innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs, allowing two walks and striking out six.

The Gophers are now 2-1 for the season, 0-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.

Kingsland took the lead first in the ballgame with a four-run third inning. Chatfield rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and then scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. Kingsland tied the game in the top of the sixth, but the Gophers broke that tie with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Aug led the hitting attack with three hits and four runs-batted-in. Lincoln Salisbury had two hits and an RBI. Other Chatfield batters getting hits were Zach Roline, Gathje, Paul Griffin and Austin Storm.

Also getting runs-batted-in were Roline and Gathje (2).

Scoring the Gopher runs were Seth Allen (3), Salisbury, Aug, Tate Karver, Griffin, Hunter Johnston and Storm.
