Jack Beardmore returns to the State Track & Field Championships for the third straight season - this year in two events after personal record runs in two events at the Section 1A Track Meet last week (May 28 and 30) at Paul Giel Field in Winona.

The Caledonia/Spring Grove senior sprinter won the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 10.94 seconds.

He posted personal-record times at 200 meters, first in the prelims (22.74 seconds) and then ran even faster in the finals (22.56). Officially, he finished second, four-thousandth of a second behind Brady Glynn of Dover-Eyota. Beardmore had edged out Glynn at 100 meters.

The top two in each section event qualifies for state, so the two speedsters will continue their rivalry at state this weekend, June 7 and 8 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

At section, the top eight places earn team points. The Caledonia Spring Grove boys placed 11th among the 22 teams which scored while the C/SG girls tied for 24th among 26 scoring teams.

Last year at state, Beardmore just missed qualifying for the 100M finals. Two years ago, he brought home a third-place medal from the 4x100M relay. He will compete this year in two events

Senior Nick McCabe, a rare sprinter and thrower, placed fourth with a personal-record shot put of 47-feet, 10.25 inches.

Beardmore and McCabe, along with sophomore Brody Johnson and freshman Reed Gordon ran their best time of the season (45.23 seconds) to finish sixth in the 4x200-meter relay and eighth in the 4x100M relay.

For the C/SG girls, sophomore Eliza Welscher matched her personal-record time in the 100-meter prelims (13.24 seconds) and then was even better (12.90) for a new personal best while placing fifth in the finals.

The girls 4x100M relay did not qualify for the finals. For the boys, Chris Pieper placed 10th in high jump.
