Boys 4x100 and 4x200 are state bound

“We were able to get our boys 4x100 and 4x200 (relay teams) on to state,” said head track coach Jeff DeBuhr. “It was a great night in which our athletes performed at their best when the lights were brightest.  That shows great character from our athletes.”

Members of the 4x100-meter relay team are Carson Larrabee, Ben Muller, Gage Tuohy and Chance Backer.  They finished second in their heat in the preliminaries with a time of 45.240 seconds, and qualified for the finals.  In the finals on Thursday they took first with a time of 44.31.

The 4x200 team of Muller, Jared Baker, Jack Tuohy and Backer finished first in their heat in the prelims on Tuesday, with a qualifying time of 1:32.28.  In the finals they had a time of 1:31.78 and nosed out Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton (1:32.31) for the gold medal.

The two relay teams are the only Gophers heading to track’s big dance. 

Rebecca Fox qualified for the finals in the 300-meter hurdles (49.49), but did not have a finishing time in the finals as she got tripped up on a hurdle.  The girls’ 4x200 relay team (Zayda Priebe, Alyssa Baum, Ann Warren, Lauren Cole) had a preliminary time of 1:55.13, but did not make the finals.  The girls 4x400 (Cole, Karla Gomez, Fox, Stephanie Bradt, 4:25.66) did not make the finals.  And the 4x800 team of Gomez, Sydney Allen, Tessa McMahon and Abbi Gillespie, with a time of 10:52.91, finished ninth.

In the high jump, Autumn Frederick had a jump of 4’6”, but did not place in the top eight.  Silja Erickson was seventh in the discus with a throw of 102’10”.

In the boys’ 200-meter dash, Jack Tuohy had a time of 24.34, missing the finals by one spot.  Chatfield’s 4x800 relay team (Brady Woltz, Treyton Lanning, Cooper Frederick, Colby Aarhus) had a time of 9:10.96, and finished 10th.  Jonathan Frank was 12th in the shot put with a toss of 43’10”.  In the discus Frank was seventh with a throw of 133’.

The state meet is this Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, at Hamline University, St. Paul.  Class A events will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
