Bulldog baseball team goes 3-1 for week

The GMLOK baseball team picked up three wins, against one loss last week, putting the team at 5-2 on the season, 4-2 in Three Rivers Conference play. 

The team had wins over Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger (19-3), Chatfield (2-0) and Lewiston-Altura (9-5).  The only setback was a week-ending loss to Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, 7-2, on Friday.

This week the team was to make up up game two of a doubleheader against Chatfield Monday, and then go into the doubleheader mode with Dover-Eyota (Tuesday, home) and at Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Friday.  In the final week of the regular season the team will take on Wabasha-Kellogg (doubleheader, away, Tuesday, May 15, Southland (DH, home, Thursday, May 17) and Cotter (single game, away, Friday, May 18).

Couple 19 hits with seven Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger errors and you get yourself a five-inning win.  That’s just what the Bulldogs did last Monday to start their week off on a good note.

Leading the way with three hits each were Reid Kruegel, Nick Ramaker and Zach Myhre.  Kruegel added two runs-batted-in and three runs, Ramaker came up with three runs and three RBI and Myhre scored one run and knocked in four.  Coming up with two hits each were Nolan Skifter (two RBI, three runs), Ethan Fenske (one R, one RBI) and Jacob Welch (one R, two RBI).  Adding to the hit list were Zach Bubany (one RBI, one R, one walk), Dylan Lunning (three R, one RBI), Grant Skifter (two R, two walks) and Ryan Hinz (one R). 

Bubany pitched the first four innings, striking out 10, and allowing no walks and just three hits.  Grant Skifter finished the final inning in relief.  He gave up two hits, three runs (all earned), struck out three and walked three.

On Tuesday, Ethan Fenske pitched a five-hit shutout, as the Bulldogs downed Chatfield 2-0.  Fenske struck out six and didn’t allow any walks.  Game two was suspended after 1.5 innings, with the score tied at 1-1.  The game was scheduled to be made-up this past Monday. 

Dylan Lunning had a base hit in the bottom of the fourth inning that scored two runs (Grant Skifter, Ramaker).  Skifter reached base on a walk and Ramaker reached on an error.  The other hit for GMLOK was recorded by Myhre in the first inning.

Thursday the team got an inter-divisional win over Lewiston-Altura.  Bubany pitched the full seven innings, allowing five runs, four earned, and seven hits while walking none and striking out six Cardinal batters. 

Jacob Welch had a great game at the plate.  He had three hits, scored two runs and knocked in two runs.  Nolan Skifter reached base three times, with two hits and a walk.  He scored one run and had one RBI.  Coming up with solo hits were Bubany, Fenske, Grant Skifter and Myhre.  Fenske, Kruegel, Lunning and Myhre also reached base with walks.  Fenske scored three times in the win.  Adding runs-batted-in to their resume’ were Bubany, Grant Skifter, and Ramaker.  Also crossing the plate with runs were Lunning, Grant Skifter and Myhre.

Fenske pitched four innings in the loss to the Falcons.  He gave up six hits, four runs (two earned), one walk and struck out one.  Myhre pitched the last two innings, allowing two hits, three runs (one earned), no walks, while striking out two. 

Bubany had two of the team’s five hits.  He also scored one of the runs and had the only RBI for the Bulldogs.  Also coming up with hits were Kruegel, Lunning and Myhre.  Myhre scored a run in the first inning and Bubany scored his run in the sixth inning.  GMLOK left six runners on base in the game. The Bulldogs had two runners on, with just one out in the fourth inning, but couldn’t score.  GMLOK left runners on base in five of the seven innings on offense.
