The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls posted their first two softball wins of the season while denying a first win for both Houston and Fillmore Central/Lanesboro. The girls claimed an 11-1 non-conference win at Houston on April 15 a day before edging conference rival FC/L 6-5 in Preston.

But in a third straight road game on April 18, state-ranked No. 6 Cotter/Hope Lutheran remained undefeated with a second victory of the season over the Warriors. But Cal/SG was much more competitive in this 7-3 loss than in the earlier 11-1 decision.

A two-RBI, first-inning double by Lydia Lange (4 for 4, 2 doubles) gave the Warriors a quick 2-0 lead that they nursed until creating some breathing room with three runs in the sixth.  Cal/SG (1-3) put the game out of reach with a six-run eruption in the final seventh inning.

Dana Augedahl, Kiley Meyer and Grace Privet all drove in runs in that big inning.

Privet went the distance in the circle, picking up the pitching win while striking out three and giving up seven hits over seven innings.

The Warriors out-hit Houston 11 to 7 and played error-free in the field, while the Hurricanes (0-2) committed four errors.

Jeanna Hahn (2 for 3, double, RBI) led the Houston attack, which stranded a dozen runners on base.

Cal/SG 6, FC/L 5

An Augedahl RBI single broke a 4-4 tie as Cal/SG tallied two runs in the top half of an extra eighth inning.

The Falcons (0-3) answered with an RBI double from Kjerstiana Corson in the bottom of the inning but would come up one run short.

FC/L scored first with two runs in the first inning, but the Falcons had to came from behind to tie the score at 3-all (third inning) and then at 4-all (sixth inning).

Cal/SG out-hit the home team 12 to 8, including five extra-base hits. Lange belted a solo home run while batting 4 for 4 for the second straight game.

Ashly Ideker drove in three runs while going 2 for 4 with a triple and a double.

For the Falcons, Addie Peters went 3 for 4 while Kelsey Biel went 2 for 4, including a home run.

Winning pitcher Claire Buttell went all eight innings, striking out 12 and walking only four.

Cotter 7, Cal/SG 3

According to Cal/SG coach Michelle Anderson, Cotter senior Isabelle Northrup may be one of the best pitchers in the state. After striking out 12 and walking none in a previous 11-1 win against the Warriors, Northrup fanned 10 batters with no walks in this rematch.

But this time, Cal/SG had eight base hits, twice as many as in the earlier meeting. Katie Tornstrom and Meyer each batted 2 for 3. Neither team was charged with an error.

The Warriors were in contention all the way, taking a brief 1-0 lead before the Ramblers replied with four runs. Cal/SG trailed only 4-3 in the fifth inning before Cotter  (6-0) scored the game's final three runs.
