Cruise on the Mississippi

Twenty-one Golden Happenings members enjoyed a cruise up the Mississippi on the La Crosse Queen on Sunday, Sept. 29. The weather wasn't the greatest but the group had brunch and took in some magnificent views.

One of the highlights was watching the opening and closing of the old railroad swing bridge. The bridge was open as the Queen passed through on the way to Lock and Dam 7, but closed as a long, long train came down the Minnesota side and began crossing the bridge, appearing to delay the group’s return to port.  But, river traffic rules and the train was decoupled, the bridge swung open and the Queen passed without delay.
