Dale “Curly” Patrick Leonard, 82, of Spring Valley, died on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at the Ostrander Care Center. 

He was born on May 8, 1936, in Cylinder, Iowa, to Walt and Edna (Rath) Leonard.

On May 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Beatrice Westphal at the Methodist church in Spring Valley.

After they were married, they lived in Spring Valley for 12 years before moving to Cloquet, Minn., Sulfur, La., and Lakeland, Florida, before moving back to Spring Valley where he worked as a truck driver.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going for coffee at Elaine’s and venturing to the Spring Valley sales barn. He enjoyed watching Western movies and listening to old time country music.

He is survived by his children, Wanda (Al) Gissendanner of Lakeland, Fla., Kathy (Eric) Chartier of Lakeland, Fla., James Leonard of Austin, Charles (Sigrid) Leonard of Tacoma, Wash., Deborah Leonard of Lakeland, Fla., Karla Leonard of Spring Valley, David Leonard of Spring Valley and Jeff Leonard of Preston; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Joann Malkmus of Humboldt, Iowaa and Duane Leonard of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers.

Funeral services for him were held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Van House officiating. Burial followed in the Etna Cemetery.
