Daniel D. Maloney, 72, of Rochester, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at his residence after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1946, in Spring Valley to Arthur and Florence (Smith) Maloney. 

He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1964 and from the University of Minnesota in 1968, receiving his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

On July 26, 1969, he married Phyllis Henderson at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley.

He worked for 35 plus years at IBM as an engineer and project manager followed by employment at Mayo Clinic as a PC support technician. 

He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, casino visits, bingo, politics and volunteering with Family Service Rochester (Meals on Wheels) and spending time with family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis; two children, Michelle Maloney of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Scott (Nancy) Maloney; grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob and Natalie Maloney of Rochester; sisters, Kay (Roger) Bender of Barron, Wis., and Marilyn "Jeni" Maloney of Fridley, Minn.; and other family members and friends.  

He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Rod Henderson. 

The memorial service for him was held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. 

Memorials are preferred to Family Service Rochester (Meals on Wheels) or Paws and Claws Humane Society.
