David Keefe, 63, of Chatfield

David Keefe

David Edward Keefe, 63, of Chatfield, died peacefully on his birthday on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, on the Keefe family farm where he grew up.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1956, in Rochester to Norbert and Mary (Peters) Keefe.

He graduated from Chosen Valley High School in 1974.

He married his high school sweetheart, Donnel Buss, in June of 1980. They later divorced, but he always kept close to the Buss family.

He began working at Menards in Chester in July of 1974. He eventually started his own business, Keefe Transfer, also working at Griffin Construction, Bill Funk Trucking, Chatfield Elementary School and most recently as Seafood Chief at J.W.’s Silver Grill in Chatfield.

He collected antique John Deere tractors and enjoyed riding his Harley with Heaven’s Devils, having served as the club president.

He lived life to the fullest, celebrating 21 years of sobriety, and helping many people to achieve sobriety. He gave many people rides when needed. He was considered Chatfield’s finest chauffeur, with his six-door Cadillac, which he deeply loved.

He is survived by his mother, Mary; siblings, Thomas (Julie), Daniel (Sue) and Mary “Betts” (Bill) Funk and many nieces, nephews and endless friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norbert.

A funeral mass for him will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield with the Rev. Edward McGrath officiating. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, and an hour before the service on Friday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
