The Fillmore Central gals had an opportunity to get some practice in last week, with only one match on the schedule.  FC came out on top in that Three Rivers Conference match 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-19), extending their record to 3-1 in the conference, 8-7 overall.

“We played a good PEM team,” said coach Travis Malley. “We are still playing without Hadley (Yoder) and Krista (Jorgenson) was late to the game. She was coming back from FFA. Kammry Broadwater started in the middle for us, and played well. We had Kandace (Sikkink) back for this game and she was a workhorse on offense for us. Defense played well, again.  PEM has a couple really good hitters. KJ (Corson) led us with 25 digs and had a great night on serve receive. Great team win.”

Sikkink had 16 kills and hit .333 with three errors and 39 attacks.  Sikkink also added 16 set assists and six digs.  Corson was 22 for 26 (84.6%) at serve receive and also led the team in digs with 25.

Lauren Mensink had an all-around good game with nine kills, hitting .250 (9k-3e-24a), 14 set assists, eight digs and was three for three in SR.  Simon added 10 digs to her defensive resume, and was three for four in serve receive.  Hope Sexton also had a fine defensive game, coming up with nine digs and going seven for 10 in SR.  Maddie Krage had six kills, hit .167 and added one ace block at the net.

Team stats against Plainview-Elgin-Millville: serving, 86.5 percent (64/74); hitting, .223 (37 kills-14 errors-103 attacks), 33 set assists, 61 digs and 80.0 percent (36/45) in serve receive.

The JV team lost to PEM in two sets.

Tuesday the Falcons were to host a very good Lewiston-Altura team and Thursday they will travel to Cotter.  The team is back home with Wabasha-Kellogg on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
