First ‘round-tripper’ for Rustad in FCL softball

By :

The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team had five games last week, winning one and losing four.

The 5-2 win came in game two of a doubleheader with La Crescent last Tuesday.  The Lady Falcons lost the first game against the Lancers 10-2.  On Thursday the gals lost to St. Charles 15-4.  Highlight of the game for FCL was a career-first home run for Sierra Rustad.

This past Saturday the Lady Falcons hosted their annual tournament and lost both of their games.  The opener was to Goodhue, 5-3, and the second game the team lost to Lake City 3-0.  In spite of losing both games in the tournament on Saturday, coach Tris Tollefson was pleased with the effort the gals gave in both games. The team is now 2-8 in Three Rivers Conference play, 2-11 overall.

Doubleheader split

“We had a rough first inning (game one), giving up four runs,” said coach Tollefson about the contests with La Crescent. “Kaelyn Marzolf pitched well after that first inning.”

KJ Corson went two for three in the game, both of her hits being doubles.  Also coming up with hits for the Falcons were Ajay Jorgenson, Makaila Eickhoff and Trina Bergey.  Corson scored both of the Falcon runs.  Eickhoff and Jorgenson had the runs-batted-in.

Marzolf pitched the entire seven innings.  She gave up 12 hits, 10 runs (seven earned) and one walk while striking out three.  FCL committed three errors in the game.

Lose to St. Charles

In the loss to the Saints, FCL came up with three hits in the game, two of them by Rustad.  She got her first career home run in the third inning with Eickhoff on board.  She also had a hit in the fourth inning that knocked in another two runs.  She finished the game with four runs-batted-in.  Ajay Jorgenson had the other hit for the Lady Falcons.

It was pitching by committee for the Falcons, as three pitchers were in the circle: Krista Jorgenson (1.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 1 K), Eickhoff (1.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) and Marzolf (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB).

Falcon tournament

Fillmore Central/Lanesboro had six hits in the opening game of the tournament, two for Kelsey Biel and one each for Corson, Ajay Jorgenson, Erickson and Joelie Schrieber.  Scoring the runs were Corson, Ajay Jorgenson and Biel.  Biel had two runs-batted-in.

Krista Jorgenson was in the circle.  She gave up eight hits, six runs (four earned) and four walks, and struck out five.

“We played a solid game,” said Tollefson. “Krista was the hard luck loser.  We made a couple of costly errors that led to two unearned runs.”

The Lady Falcons played another pretty good game against Lake City, tied going into the top of the seventh inning at 0-0.  Lake City scored three runs in the top of the seventh, all with two outs.

FCL could only come up with two hits, one each for Corson and Maddy Bakken.

Eickhoff pitched a good game but didn’t have any offensive support.  She pitched the full seven innings, allowing only four hits, three runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out three.  “Eickhoff pitched well in defeat,” concluded coach Tollefson.

The team finishes up the regular season this week.  Tuesday the girls were set to host Rushford-Peterson, Thursday they are at Wabasha-Kellogg and Saturday they will travel to Caledonia/Spring Grove.

Tournament play starts next week.
