Five C/SG boys, four girls advance to section track meet

Four girls and five boys for Caledonia/Spring Grove performed well enough at the May 23 Sub-section 1 Track and Field Meet to advance to the Section 1A Championships. The top three places at sub-section qualify for the section meet. The top six places earn team points.

Boys at sub-section

Senior Jack Beardmore, for the second straight season, has won both the sub-section 100-meter and 200-meter championships and this season goes to section on a sub-section runner-up 4x100-meter relay.

Senior Nick McCabe also qualifies for section in three events - on that 4x100 relay and with a third-place shot put and third-place finish in the 100M dash with a personal-record time of 11.70 seconds.

That gave C/SG two of the top three places at 100 meters. Unfortunately, an injury kept McCabe from running in the sub-section 200.

Running with McCabe and Beardmore on that second-place relay were sophomore Brody Johnson and freshman Reed Gordon.

Freshman Chris Pieper advances to section with a second-place high jump of 5 feet, 10 inches.

Also scoring team points for the C/SG boys was Johnson (6th place 200M) along with the fifth-place 4x200M relay runners Pieper, Jack Strub, Ethan Jacobson and Jackson Koepke.

Overall, five boys will represent C/SG, competing in five different events at section.

Girls at sub-section

Four Warrior girls advance in two events. Eliza Welscher took third place in the 100M dash with her best time of the season (13.26 seconds). The sophomore sprinter also qualified on the young third-place 4x100M relay along with freshman Alysha Heaney, eighth grader Alexis Schroeder and eighth grader Kloe Jore.

Welscher also added team points with a fourth-place finish in the 200M dash. Fifth-place points came from the 4x200M relay girls - Jenna Scanlon, Harlie Tostenson, Alex Tostenson and Arianna Tostenson.

Team standings

In the team standings, the boys finished fifth among six teams, and the Warrior girls were sixth. Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton won the girls team trophy while Rushford-Peterson/Houston was the boys championship team.
