Five sites in county available to dispose of drugs Saturday

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office will again participate in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28.

The sheriff’s office has arranged and staffed pickup sites throughout the county: Preston, Lanesboro, Mabel, Spring Valley and Rushford. Collection times are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This initiative allows citizens the opportunity to properly discard old/expired, unused, unwanted, and dangerous drugs (prescribed and over the counter). This also allows a safe form of disposal, instead of putting them in the garbage or down the drain.

In addition, it also helps prevent them from falling into the hands of young children and also prevents the abuse of these drugs from those who they are not prescribed to, according to Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase.

The specific locations for the sites are: Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, 901 Houston Street NW, Preston; Lanesboro City Hall, 202 Parkway Avenue N; Mabel City Hall, 201 South Main Street; the Spring Valley Fire Department, 120 West Courtland Street; and the Rushford Police Department, 405 Elm Street South.

In the event people can’t participate in the designated Drug Take Back Day, but still have drugs to dispose of, there is a drug drop off box located at the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office in Preston. This box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week year round. Whether people participate in the National Drug Take Back Day or use the drug drop off box, all participation is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
