Forum Thursday chance to meet City Council candidates

Spring Valley residents will have a chance to hear from City Council candidates Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Spring Valley Community Center during a meet the candidates forum.

The forum is sponsored by Spring Valley VFW Post 4114 and the Spring Valley Tribune. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the question and answer period running from 7 p.m. to no later than 9 p.m.

The four Spring Valley City Council candidates — none of them incumbents — are Thomas Brunson, Chris Danielson, John Dols and Luan Reusink. Voters will choose two candidates on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The only mayoral candidate, Tony Archer, who is on the council now, will be at the forum as well. He will give a brief statement on his candidacy, but will not be involved in the questioning with the four council candidates.

Questions will be reviewed beforehand to make sure they are appropriate. They will be randomly drawn out of a basket with each candidate getting two minutes to answer. There will be three minutes for an introduction from each candidate before the questions and two minutes at the end for a final statement.

The public may submit questions by going online to under the submissions tab across the top of the homepage. Questions may also be brought into the Tribune office, 101 South Broadway Avenue or mailed to Tribune, P.O. Box 112, Spring Valley, MN 55975.

The VFW and Tribune have co-sponsored a forum every election year since 2014 with the county sheriff and commissioner candidates participating that year and Kingsland School Board candidates taking part in 2016.

Only one person filed for the three School Board openings this year, so there will be no forum for that office.
