Free caregivers class to be offered in Chatfield

Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota will be offering a Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop series beginning Wednesday, Jan. 16.   It will run for six consecutive Wednesdays.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend.

Participants will benefit from this class whether they are helping a parent, spouse, friend, someone who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the country. The program will help individuals reduce stress, communicate more effectively, take care of themselves, reduce guilt, anger and depression, help them relax, make tough decisions and much more.

During the six-week session, participants receive support from trained leaders and other workshop participants. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide tools and strategies to better handle the unique caregiver challenges they face. Participants also benefit from meeting other people with similar challenges and learning how they cope.

The workshop is sponsored by Active Aging Programs at Catholic Charities and by the host, Chosen Valley Assisted Living.  The group will meet on Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m., Jan. 16th through Feb. 20.

Respite care may be made available through Age Well at Home for those needing care for a loved one in order to attend this valuable class.

There is no charge for this workshop, but space is limited so register today! To register, or for more information, contact Tina Kerns, Active Aging Program Coordinator, at 507-251-0520 or tkerns@ccsomn.org.
