Friendship Wagon Train returns to area this weekend

The volunteers of the 2018 Friendship Wagon Train will be holding their annual fundraiser June 23 to 30. They will be traveling through southeast Minnesota after assembling at Gamehaven Scout Reservation near Rochester on June 22. Starting June 23, the wagon train will travel through Stewartville, Sumner Center, Spring Valley, Cherry Grove, Greenleafton, Canton, Prosper, Mabel and surrounding countryside areas.

Founded in 1989 by John Davis of Byron, the Friendship Wagon Train has spent the last 30 years raising funds for organizations that benefit developmentally disabled children and adults. Through the years, they have raised money for a few different organizations. This year all of their funds will be donated to Special Olympics.

Members of the wagon train come from across the United States — Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and California. Some come with riding mules and horses, and some bring wagons pulled by horses or mules.

The public is invited to come out to visit with the wagon train members any time during the week. Donations to Special Olympics will be accepted by wagon train members all along the route. For more information you may contact Wagon Master John Davis at 507-365-8064 prior to June 21.
