Fun entertainment planned for movie camp premiere

It’s going to be a red carpet night and a lot of entertainment in Harmony on Thursday, July 18, at the JEM Movie Theatre! Nine kids from around the area have been participating in the second Movie Camp offered through the theater, and July 18 will be the “Movie Camp Premiere Night,” along with awards and entertainment from Mike & Nate Comedy.

The kids in the movie camp have been learning the fundamentals of filmmaking from movie producer and teacher, Nicholas Ritz of Burnsville, Minn. They are taught everything from filmmaking basics, cinematography, sound recording, camera settings, lighting and filming scenes. They get to apply these new skills to create their own 10-minute movie using a DSLR camera, where they also develop their own storyline, scripts and characters, and have an opportunity to use costumes and make-up. Once all their scenes are filmed, they continue to learn from Ritz about editing their shots and then creating their movie. The skills learned at Movie Camp offer a great head start if they choose to pursue an education or future job in the industry. They also learn so much more, including how to work together, team building, compromising, problem solving and time management.

To warm the crowd up before the movie showings, Mike & Nate Comedy will entertain the audience. They have been performing their brand of high-energy improv comedy together all over the country for over 20 years for audiences of 50 to 8,000 people. Mike and Nate are excited and honored to join with Hope 4 Kids International and Water 4 Kids on the mission to bring their Clean Comedy 4 Clean Water show everywhere, so that life-giving clean water can be given in the name of Jesus to kids, families and villages in Africa that desperately need it.

The Movie Camp is something new to the area with the first one offered last year. The JEM Theatre hopes to continue offering the camp and increase the number of campers each year. With the help of volunteers, fundraising, tuition, donations and ticket sales to the premier, this camp is made possible to those kids that would like to explore, learn, have fun and develop new friendships.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the Movie Camp Premiere night where audience members will not only be fully entertained with clean comedy, but show support to the campers during the preview of their movies.

The Movie Camp Premiere Night will take place on Thursday, July 18, at the JEM Movie Theatre in Harmony, with paparazzi pictures at 6:30 p.m., and the show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by contacting Amber Coaty at 507-676-5456 or
