Gile, Pehler qualify for MSHSL state trap shooting meet, R-P takes 20th in team standings at Clay Target League tourney

The Rushford-Peterson trap team put on an impressive display at the Class 2A Minnesota Clay Target League State Tournament last week. In addition to finishing 20th as a team, R-P qualified two indivuduals for the MSHSL State meet.


As a team, R-P shooters racked up a score of 448, just 36 targets behind state team champion Park Rapids (484). The tournament in Alexandria, Minn., consisted of two days with two rounds of 25 shots each, for a total of 100 shots.

Individual results

Brady Gile was the top scorer for R-P, finishing with a 97 (out of 100 possible birds). Breena Pehler was next with a 92. Thomas Ekern followed with an 88, Jens Lind an 86, and Hans Lind and John Luhmann each scored 85 points, Tim Highum hit 81 targets, and Brett Betthauser scored a 76.

Hadyn Kahoun scored an 81 and Hunter Mart hit 76 birds in the Junior Varsity competition. In the Novice Division, Jacob Holien scored 81, Tyler Betthauser added 76, and Faith Eide hit 40 targets.

High Gun Overall

Gile finished tied for 8th place on the High Gun Overall List at 97. He’d already qualified for the MSHSL state tournament by finishing in the Top 100 Shooters List from the regular season.

Breena Pehler’s 92 tied her for 70th on the Overall List, as did Ekern’s 88. Jens Lind (86) made the list, as did Luhmann (85), Hans Lind (85), Highum (81), and Brett Betthauser (76).

High Gun Male

Gile’s 97 also tied him for 8th on this list. Ekern (88) made the list, as did Jens Lind (86), Luhmann (85), Hans Lind (85), Highum (81), and Brett Betthauser (76).

High Gun Female

Pehler had an outstanding tournament for R-P, finishing tied for fourth on the High Gun Female List (92), only two points behind individual champ Alisyn Rathcke from Sebeka (94).

25-Straight Club

Pehler joined the 25-Straight Hits Club twice during the tournament. Both of Pehler’s streaks came during the first round of competition on day one and day two.

Gile joined the 25-Straight hits club in the first round of shooting on day two.

MSHSL State Meet

Pehler and Brady Gile have advanced to the MSHSL State Tournament on June 21, at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake, Minn. We’ll have results here next week.
