The GMLOKS track team had four state qualifiers in the 2018 state track meet and came home with one first place champion, a second place winner and a sixth place finisher.

The girls 4x200 relay team of Anika Reiland, Emily Hovden, Lauren Buchholtz and Riley Queensland took the state title in that event.

The second place finisher was Drew Lewison in the 300-meter hurdles. Lewison also took sixth place in the 110-meter hurdles.

GMLOKS had one other finals qualifier — the girls 4x100 relay team of Isabelle Olson, Emily Hovden, Kassidy Kirtz and Anika Reiland.  Unfortunately for the 4x100 relay competitors, the team was disqualified in the finals for a lane violation.

The top nine in each event are also considered all-state performers.

As far as team points go, the GMLOKS girls had 12 points and finished in a tie for 28th place.  A total of 73 different teams scored points in the Class A meet.  The Blake School won the girls championship with 46 points.  Cotter was second with 42 points (all scored by two girls, Grace and Laura Ping).

The GMLOKS boys (Drew Lewison) scored 14 points and finished in a tie for 25th.  A total of 86 different teams scored points in the boys’ championship.  Pequot Lakes won the boys championship with 39 points.  All 39 points were scored by one person, Reid Pierzinski.  He finished first in the 200-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles and took seventh in the triple jump.  In track, sometimes there is an “I” in “TEAM!”

Coaches of the successful GMLOKS teams are Aaron Thauwald and Eric Thorson.
