The Kingsland boys’ golf team finished third and Wyatt Pruter just missed out on qualifying for state during competition in the Section 1A Golf Tournament at Willow Creek Golf Course in Rochester.

The first round of section play was May 28 and the second round was on May 30. The teams played 18 holes of golf during each day. The Kingsland boys finished third in the team standings at 190 strokes, behind section champ Bethlehem Academy (127) and runner-up Blooming Prairie (153). The Kingsland girls didn’t have enough players to qualify for the team competition, which was won by Fillmore Central (193 strokes).

The section championship teams are the only squads that take their full roster to the State A Golf Meet on June 11 and 12 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker. The five golfers with the lowest scores who aren’t on the section championship teams also qualify for the state meet.

Boys’ results

Wyatt Pruter of Kingsland just missed an individual qualifying spot with his score of 25 over par for the 36-hole tournament. The fifth-and-final qualifying score came in at 23 over par.

Nick Wernimont finished up tied for 20th on the final individual leaderboard. Nathan Lund was next at 23rd on the scoreboard, while Greg Hubka (29th place) rounded out the team scoring. Gavin Merkel (38th place) and Isaac Simon also competed for the Knights.

Max Schmitz of Southland was the individual medalist, finishing the 36-hole tournament at 10 over par.

Girls’ results

Madeline Moore of Kingsland finished the tournament in 14th place, while Kylie Welch wasn’t far behind in 18th place.
