Gopher gals pick up conference win in volleyball

The Chatfield volleyball team is currently 2-6 on the season and 1-0 in Three Rivers Conference play.  The gals have lost non-conference matches to Lewiston-Altura (3-0), Rushford-Peterson (3-1) and Pine Island (3-0) and went 1-3 in the Rochester Century tournament.

In TRC play the Gophers have beaten Southland, 3-0.  Conference matches with L-A (Sept. 18) and R-P (Oct. 2) are coming up later in the season

Tuesday the team hosts La Crescent, Thursday the girls are at Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Saturday they will take part in the Vets Tournament at Wabasha-Kellogg High School.

Gophers lose to R-P

The Lady Gophers lost to the Trojans 21-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 25-27 Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The hitting attack was led by Kielan LaPlante with nine kills.  She had three errors in 24 attacks and hit .250.  Alanna Goetzinger hit .278 with six kills, one error and 18 attacks.  Nobody else was above .000 in hitting for the match.  Paige Erickson had six kills, with three for Belle Berg and two for Mollie Henry.  As a team, Chatfield hit -.036 (26 kills, 30 errors, 110 attacks).  Teagan Allen led the team with 14 set assists and Devann Clemens add three. 

In the serving department, Abby Nosbisch had the hot hand, hitting 18 of 19, 94.7 percent, and six aces.  Clemens and Allen served at 100 percent, going 11 for 11 and 10 for 10, respectively.  Erickson was 15 for 16 in serving and McKenna Daniels and Abi Hinckley were each six for seven.  Katie Ihrke had two ace serves and was four for six at the line.  Berg went three for four in serving.  Erickson had two aces and Hinckley and Clemens each had one. 

Defensively, Hinckley led the team with seven digs, with four each for Allen and Clemens, three for Berge and two digs for Ihrke.  In serve return, Hinckley went 21 for 37 (56.7 percent), Daniels was 12 for 21 (57.1 percent) and Nosbisch was six for 11.  Berg was four for eight in SR, Henry two for five and LaPlante was one for one.  At the net LaPlante had three blocks, two each for Erickson and Goetzinger and one each for Berge, Daniels and Henry. 

Serving and blocking were the best aspects of this match for the Gophers.

Conference win over Rebels

The team average for hitting improved in this match for the Lady Gophers on Thursday, Sept. 6.  The gals salvaged a .000 average, with 20 kills, 20 errors and 79 attacks.  Not that good, but better than a negative hitting average.  LaPlante led the way with eight kills, four each for Belle Berg and Goetzinger and one each for Henry, Erickson, Peyton Berg and Carlie Berge.  Set assists went to Allen (13), Ihrke (three) and Clemens (one).  Erickson led the team with 3.5 ace blocks, with 1.5 each for LaPlante, Daniels and Goetzinger and one for Berge.

Hinckley (11/16) and Nosbisch (12/17) were the leaders in serve receive for Chatfield.  Digs were evenly matched with Nosbisch leading with four. 

Overall serving was down in this match against Southland.  As a team the Gophers only went 56/73 (76.7 percent).  Leaders were LaPlante (3/3), Ihrke (8/10), Allen (8/10), Daniels (6/7), Hinckley (12/14) and Erickson (14/16).  Hinckley and Erickson each had four ace serves and Nosbisch came up with two aces.

Set scores against the Rebels were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-22.
